Head In The Clouds: Volume One Cover (2021)

Head In The Clouds is a series of photos that have been shot throughout the pandemic (2020-2021) on digital cameras and in post-processing have been edited to mimic what used to be “KODAK AEROCHROME III Infrared Film 1443 (DISCONTINUED) is an infrared-sensitive, false-color reversal film featuring medium resolving power and fine grain.” (From Kodak’s Website).

I first started this project several weeks ago in July or August (2020).

While editing photos from a photo walk, I applied a Kodak Aerochrome film* filter on the image with the building, tree tops, and clouds. It was actually something I had thought about doing when taking the photo. Once the filter was on, I knew I made the right choice. There is something about the colors with this filter that make it feel fantasy-like or as though you were in some sort of a surreal daydream. As someone that daydreams often, this has me hooked. I had tried this filter out a few times with great results, and have always felt the same way but this time I decided I could actually make a project out of it. So, the weeks that followed, came the photos of the ship, the gentlemen by the water, and the window frame with the single plant. Before I knew it, I had acquired a collection of photos that, normally I would have probably never done anything with. As someone who enjoys walking around and snapping photos of whatever moves me or captures my attention - be it lighting, the subject, or the moment, this self-assignments allows me to breathe life into fairly ordinary shots of my everyday existence.

*Aerochome film was false color infrared film that mostly altered greens and was primarily used for government, military, or scientific aerial photography.
